As soon as Ali and I got engaged last June, I knew the wedding plans would be underway the next day.
And I was right. The wheels were spinning and Ali was all over the place. Blogs, wedding sites, fabric stores. You name it, Ali was there.
I knew that I had to make sure Ali stayed organized. She had plans to make a huge wedding book or “bible” but that doesn’t cut in in this electronic day and age. I had to use all the online resources that I could think of to make sure that Ali could keep all of her wedding plans, links and ideas in one place and easy to find.
The first thing I had her do is sign up for the social bookmarking site Delicious. On her Delicious page, Ali can save websites, blogs, things she wants to buy, whatever, and tag them to keep them organized. She has tags for her dress, the cake, centerpieces, everything.
The next thing we did was set this wedding website up. Since about 80% of our guests will be coming in from out of town, having an online information hub was a huge priority. We’ll be keeping this site live well after the wedding, and this is only the beginning.
Speaking of blogs, Ali has subscribed to DOZENS of wedding blogs and she keeps up on reading them by using Google Reader.
Another Google resource that we are using is Google Docs for spreadsheets to manage the guest list and what we will use to create a mail merge to send out the invitations.
Finally we just started using Evernote to create an online wedding book to make sure the loose ends are not lost in the cracks or forgotten.
These online and mobile apps that we can access on the go have proven to be invaluable while planning our wedding. We would not be nearly as organized or as far along in the process as we are without them.
